Carpenter Technology Expanding into Alabama
Carpenter Technology (NYSE:CRS) is strengthening its core premium metals business by constructing a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Limestone County, Alabama. The new $500 million Athens Operations facility will include remelting, forging and associated finishing and testing capabilities. It is expected to be in operation by early 2014.
Athens Operations will ultimately be capable of producing approximately 27,000 tons per year of additional premium product and will be designed with modern technology and optimum product flow to meet customer requirements for reduced lead times.
The facility is being built in response to strong customer demand for premium alloy products primarily in the fast-growing aerospace and energy industries.

• Cold start testing phase (equipment start-up without material/product)
• Installation of manipulators
• Hot start testing phase (test product through equipment)
• Customer product arrives from Reading and Latrobe

The approximately 230-acre site is located near Athens, Alabama, in the Huntsville Metropolitan Statistical Area. About 200 people are expected to work at the facility when it reaches full production.
