

Soft Magnetic Alloys
Carpenter Technology (UK) Ltd. manufactures nickel and cobalt-iron alloys and toroidal cores. Our plant facilities incorporate vacuum induction melting, strip rolling and finishing and heat treatment. Products include soft magnetic nickel-iron and cobalt-iron alloys available in strip, sheet and bar under the names of Mumetal*, Radiometal, Rotelloy*, Permendur and HS50. Controlled expansion alloys for temperature control and glass sealing are manufactured under the names Invar and Telcoseal. Toroidal cores are also produced for high accuracy current measurement. All of the processes are controlled by a quality management system registered to BS EN ISO 9001:2000.

Nickel-iron alloys in the range 30% to 80% nickel provide a wide range of soft magnetic properties which enable design engineers to select an alloy meeting the demands of a specific application. These may include one or more of the following: high permeability, low coercive force, low losses and high remanent flux density.
Cobalt-iron alloys containing 24% to 50% cobalt offer a range of properties with the highest known saturation magnetisation at room temperature. This combined with high strength make them a natural choice for the designer where considerations of weight and space are of prime importance.
