| Medical Alloys Now Sold Online Through
Carpenterdirect.com |
Anaheim, Calif. (January 6, 2004) Carpenterdirect.com, the e-commerce site
of Carpenter Technology Corp. (NYSE:CRS), announced today at the Medical Design and
Manufacturing-West trade show (Booth #2061) that it has expanded its online
catalogue to include several popular medical alloys in bar form.
Carpenter's BioDur® 108 alloy, BioDur CCM® alloy and BioDur CCM Plus® alloy bar can
now be ordered online through Carpenterdirect.com. BioDur 316LS stainless bar is expected
to be available for online purchase by March 31.
These proprietary Carpenter alloys have been used in a range of medical applications,
including surgical instruments, fracture fixation devices, advanced diagnostics equipment
and implanted orthopedic devices.
BioDur 108 alloy (UNS29108) is an essentially nickel-free, nonmagnetic stainless. It
offers corrosion resistance, fabricability and ductility similar to that of
nickel-containing 22Cr-13Ni-5Mn alloy (ASTM F1314) at a significantly higher strength. The
alloy has a typical yield strength of 230 ksi (1586 MPa) and tensile strength of 260 ski
(1924Mpa).
BioDur CCM alloy is a premium-melted, nonmagnetic cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy that
exhibits high strength, corrosion resistance and wear resistance.
BioDur CCM Plus alloy is a high-carbon version of BioDur CCM alloy that is made by
Carpenter's Micro-Melt powder metallurgy process. It is a forgeable alloy with improved
strength in the fully annealed condition. Due to its processing, the alloy has homogeneous
chemistry and microstructure with very fine, uniformly distributed carbides -- giving the
material superior wear resistance.
BioDur CCM alloy and BioDur CCM Plus alloy meet the requirements of ISO 5832-4, ISO
5832-12 and ASTM F1537.
Carpenterdirect.com will continue to sell four other alloys that have been used in
medical applications: Custom 455® stainless (UNS S45500), Custom 465® stainless,
Gall-Tough® stainless and Project 70® Custom 630 stainless (UNS S17400).
