A new line of small-diameter titanium machining bar, imparting
very tight dimensional tolerances and exceptional size consistency and
straightness, offers improved quality, higher productivity and cost savings to
manufacturers making small, intricate, precision parts on Swiss-type automatic
screw machines.
Considered a significant improvement over industry-standard
precision machining bar, the new Dynamet titanium ULTRABAR can be considered
for posts, abutments and healing caps in dental implants, as well as parts in
other industries requiring similarly stringent dimensional tolerances.
Dynamet, a subsidiary of Carpenter Technology, reports that
titanium ULTRABAR offers tighter dimensional tolerances, along with superior
roundness, straightness and finish requirements while maintaining an
unprecedented level of consistency from bar-end-to bar-end and lot-to-lot.
The new custom manufactured ULTRABAR works well with automatic
bar feeders and moves efficiently through guide bushings so it can be run at
higher speeds and feeds, optimizing production which may yield productivity
improvements.
The titanium ULTRABAR can minimize interruptions in production,
reduce costly downtime for machine adjustments and virtually eliminate machine
vibration. Additionally, due to its tight dimensional tolerance and size
consistency, conversion grinding is no longer necessary.
ULTRABAR is made by a proprietary process using highly
specialized equipment. It links proven historic technology with new technology
to provide a state-of-the-art process for diameter measurement and
documentation employing laser technology.
The new titanium bar is available in bar diameters from 3 mm
(0.11811 in.) to 12 mm (0.47244 in.) and in lengths up to 4.26 m (14 ft.). Bar
is offered in several medical grades, including: Ti 6Al–4V, Ti 6Al-4V ELI, Ti
6Al-7Nb, Ti CP-Grade 1, Ti CP-Grade 2, Ti CP-Grade 3, Ti CP-Grade 4 and Ti
15Mo.
